Wilo has been the main sponsor of the German Men’s Eight since 2010 as well as of the Men’s Four and the Men’s Pair since 2015. “We have been able to celebrate numerous major successes together in recent years”, says Oliver Hermes, President & CEO of the Wilo Group. “From Olympic gold in 2012 to several European and World Championship titles and a silver medal at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. And we are convinced: There will be many more successes to come.”
“We are delighted that Wilo continues to stand firmly by our side,” says Carsten Oberhagemann, Managing Director of Deutschland-Achter GmbH. “Turbulent times prove how strong a partnership is.” After the Olympic Games in Tokyo, a generational shift took place at the oars. Nevertheless, national coach Sabine Tschäge’s team managed to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
“Our commitment to rowing is a matter close to our hearts. Of course, we also support the athletes in turbulent phases of the sport. They can rely on the support of the entire Wilo family”, says Hermes. Shared values and an affinity with the city of Dortmund are what bind the company and the rowers.
The same applies to the majority shareholder of the WILO SE: The Wilo-Foundation is committed to the Opländer family’s decades-long dedication to competitive rowing in Dortmund and has been supporting the U23 young athletes since 2013. For example, the family foundation awards training scholarships or enables participation in training camps.
“With the help of our youth development programme, we’re improving training conditions and supporting the compatibility of a professional career with competitive sports”, explains Evi Hoch, member of the Executive Board of the Wilo-Foundation. Hermes, also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Wilo-Foundation, adds: “In this way, we are sustainably promoting the future of the German Men’s Eight in Dortmund.”
